And our defensive positioning was pretty poor most of the night, too. With this Central Suburban North scheduling and playing the same team back to back, we’ve got to get a lot better in tomorrow’s practice if we want to win at Deerfield on Wednesday.”

Girls volleyball

Alton Marquette def. Greenville 25-14, 25-16
Greenville (5-10 overall): Justyce Stephenson (10 service points, 2 aces, 6 assists), Gwyn Mitchell (4 kills, 3 blocks), Jayden Markus (4 kills), Alison Ridens (3 assists), Brooklyn Suzuki (19 digs), Charlee Stearns (18 digs).
Greenville coach Tracy McEvers: “The score of this last game did not reflect the effort that was given by the team. The girls played really well against Marquette, but we let too many serving points go by in a row from the other side. Marquette had some pretty big front row hitters as well. We played good defense, but struggled at times getting our defense and offense working together at the same time to finish a play. I don’t feel like our record reflects how we played all season. So many games were 25-22 (or similar) and we just couldn’t come out on top. I am really proud of our three seniors – Natalie Iberg, Gywn Mitchell and Justyce Stephenson – who showed up this season willing to learn and listen. We will sure miss those three next season, but I am very thankful we were able to get a senior season with them, even as modified as it was.”
