Vernon Hills coach Chris Curry: “This was a great match to have going into the playoffs. Maine South brought such incredible energy. They played like teams play in the playoffs: they were desperate to win, and it took us a while to match their intensity. Lesson learned, we hope. Josh Ludolph basically willed us to this victory. He refuses to accept less than full effort from himself or his teammates, which is why they chose him as a captain. He hit .350 tonight with 9 kills and 8 blocks. For some stretches, he was the only guy hitting effectively. It was also encouraging that we could change on the fly, bring new guys in, switch up positions and find success. The depth of this team has been a great part of the winning. When one setter went out injured, Jax (Goldufsky) stepped in and handled it. Kavin (Manivasagam) took over at libero and picked up our defense. Jeff (Altmark) moved from libero to outside hitter and helped steady that part of the rotation. The help came from everywhere.”
