Sports Performance’s Presidents Day Challenge, Nike Presidents’ Day Classic in St. Louis and Triple Crown Volleyball NIT in Salt Lake City are among the weekend destinations for state’s best, while 15s No. 1 Lions 15-1 takes a breather.

Note: SPVB 16 Elite went 3-0 in the Great Lakes Power League 16 Super Open on Sunday including a 25-8, 25-19 win over Lions 15-1 and a 25-23, 25-18 victory over SPVB 15 Elite. Outside hitter Maddie Meyers of Glenbard North serve-received and passed to take some of the heat off leading attacker Cate Long of Aurora Christian.

Note: After wallowing for a weekend in Bracket B of the Great Lakes Power League 16 Super Open division, Michio Chicago 16 National punched its ticket to Bracket A by sweeping Cyclones 16 Black Adidas and Motion Volleyball 16 BLU before eluding WI Juniors 16-1 25-20, 13-25, 15-12 in the first-place match. Middle hitters Leila Wallace of Munster, Indiana, and Miara Bolden of Homewood-Flossmoor have been stalwarts for Michio.

Note: After spotting Motion Volleyball 16 Blue an 11-0 lead in its first match Sunday morning, Illini Elite rebounded to beat Cyclones 16 Black Adidas and Capital 16 Adidas to retain its spot in Bracket B of the Great Lakes Power League 16 Super Open division. Middle hitters Mira Chopra of Champaign Central and Allie Trame of St. Thomas More are rock solid.

Note: Lions 15-1 coach Courtney Keefe said her team needs to play as a unit rather than individuals after the girls from Western Springs finished third in Bracket A of the Great Lakes Power League 16 Super Open on Sunday to wrap up a 4-2 weekend with both losses to SPVB 16 Elite. Lions 15-1 will take the next two weeks off before returning to Power League play.

2. SPVB 15 Elite (2)
Note: SPVB 15 Elite should only get better as 6-1 setter Zayna Meyer from Wheaton Warrenville South and 6-1 outside hitter Emily Wilson from Joliet Catholic reacclimate to their teammates after spending several weeks on the disabled list. Luke Stapleton’s crew showed what it can do with a full complement by beating Iowa Rockets 16R 25-20, 25-20 on Sunday.

3. Fusion 15 Red (4)
Note: Fusion 15 Red bounced back from a 25-12, 25-20 semifinal loss to 1st Alliance 16 Black to beat WVA 15 Black 25-16, 25-15 and finish third in Bracket C of the Great Lakes Power
League 16 Super Open on Sunday. Fusion 15 Red began play Sunday with a 25-17, 16-25, 15-13 win over Michio Chicago 15 National.

4. Sky High Adidas 15 Black (NR)
Next: Sky High Adidas 15 Black exchanged set routs against 1st Alliance 16 Black in its Great Lakes Power League 16 Super Open division opener Sunday before falling 13-25, 25-13, 15-10. 1st Alliance went on to win the bracket. Sky High went on to place fifth, defeating Michio Chicago 15 National 17-25, 33-31, 15-7 and Uno Girls 15 Elite 25-21, 25-12.

5. Wildcat Jrs. 15 Black (NR)
Note: Wildcats Jrs. 15 Black earned a spot in Bracket B when the Great Lakes Power League 16 Super Open division resumes on February 25 by reaching the finals of Bracket C on Sunday before falling to 1st Alliance 16 Black. Top players include 5-8 setter Ava Tortorello from Latin, 5-7 outside hitter Meilani Calcutt from Loyola and rightside hitter Stephanie Mayer from New Trier.
