Carmel coach David Pazely: “Tonight was a roller coaster ride of emotions and performance.  Wauconda battled all night long, no matter the score, no matter losing the first set, they came to fight. It is testament to their coach and their mentality. Carmel’s performance was inconsistent, especially in the second set, but the girls were able to shake off a bad performance and come back with a strong third set to win a regional title. Carmel regained momentum with a couple of kills from Brailyn Albanese, then Liv Johnson got going offensively. Liv then stepped to the service line and went on an incredible service run which included 4 aces. We opened up a 9-point lead and rode out that momentum to end the match. Carmel will be hosting the sectional round. It is going to be a packed house on Tuesday night. Work to be done, but looking forward to the opportunity to keep this playoff run alive.”

We came out ready to play and controlled the first set all the way through. We knew Midland would respond and play better and we found ourselves trailing the majority of the second set, tying it at 22 before fighting off two set points to tie it again at 24 and ultimately take the second set in extra points. The way we were able to refocus and play to win, even though we were down late in the set, is something that makes this team special.”
