Carmel coach David Pazely: This was a great match from start to finish and the type of test you want in the middle of the season. Charlotte’s service run created the separation in the first set, and we played side out volleyball from there to close it out. Lakes started passing better in serve receive and got into a better offensive rhythm in the second set. We tried keeping up, but their rightside hitter was able to seal the second set. The third set was back and forth until Charlotte got us up to 16-12. They closed the gap to 16-15, but then Karissa Kristan served us back up to 20-15. Lakes brought it back to 21-22, but Carmel got some clutch kills from Liv Johnson and Brailyn Albanese to finish the match. I was especially proud of our middle hitters tonight who combined for 10 kills in the third set. Shea Kelly added another 4 kills and the Corsairs battled through some tough adversity to edge out a win against a strong Lakes team.
Next up: Carmel entertains Warren on Thursday.
