According to Smith, one such program that joined that list this fall is Pleasant Plains, which began the 2023 season, its 50th, with 999 wins, 478 losses and one tie.

[1.] 135, (Chicago) Mother McAuley, November 18, 1979-September 16, 1983 (135-0).

[2. tie] 57, Cary-Grove, October 6, 2009-November 13, 2010, won the final 16 matches of 2009 culminating with a Class 4A championship, then won the first 41 matches of 20 10 season before losing in 4A championship match to (LaGrange) Lyons Township (41-1), 25-23, 19-25, 25-23.

[2. tie] 57, (Chicago) Marist, September 13, 2017-September 29. 2018, won the final 32 matches of the 2017 season culminating with a Class 4A championship, then won the first 25 matches of the 2018 season before losing to Assumption (Louisville, Kentucky), 25-21, 25-21, in the ASICS Challenge championship match.

[4.] 56, (Breese) Mater Dei, October 1993-September 1995, won its final 10 matches in 1993 and went 38-0 in 1994 to win back-to-back Class A championships, then won its first eight matches in 1995.

[5. tie] 43, Mt. Pulaski, 1989, went 43-0 and won the Class A championship, then lost to Williamsville-Sherman in the   game of the 1990 season.

[5. tie] 43, Metamora, March 20, 2021-October 9, 2021, won its last 16 matches during the abbreviated Spring 2021 season and first 27 matches of the Fall 2021 season before losing to Pleasant Plains, 23-25, 26-24, 18-16, in semifinals of the Bloomington Central Catholic Saints Fall Classic.

[7.]  42, Cry stal Lake Central, August 30, 2007-September 2, 2008, went 42-0 and won Class 3A championship in 2007, then lost its opening match of 2008 season to Crystal Lake South.

[8. tie] 41. Mt Pulaski, 1988, won first 41 games of the season before losing to (Wheaton) St. Francis in the Class A championship game, 15-7, 14-16, 15-8.

[8. tie] 41, Naperville Central, September 5, 1998- November 14, 1998, won its first 41 matches of the 1998 season before losing in Class AA championship match to (Orland Park) Carl Sandburg, 15-10, 14-16, 15-12.

[8. tie] 41, (Albion) Edwards County, August 29, 2013-November 16, 2013, started 41-0 (82-3 in sets), then lost in Class 2A championship game to (Elmhurst) Immaculate Conception, 25-15, 25-19.

[11.] 40, Shelbyville, August 1991-November 1991, won its first 40 games of season, then lost to (Wheaton) St. Francis in the Class A championship game, 15-12, 15-4.

[12.] 39, Lake Forest, September 1, 1998-November 13, 1998, won its first 39 games, then lost in a Class AA quarterfinal match to (Orland Park) Carl Sandburg, 15-11, 15-7.

[16. tie] 36, (Lisle) Benet Academy, won its final 20 matches of 2011 season, including a 25-14, 22-25, 25-16 victory over Cary-Grove in the Class 4A championship match, then won its first 16 matches of 2012 season.

[20] 35, Lisle (Benet Academy), November 10, 2018-October 22, 2019, defeated (Crystal Lake) Prairie Ridge, 25-20, 25-23, in Class 4A third-place game, then won its first 34 matches of the 2019 season before losing to (Chicago) Marist, 25-13, 25-21.

[21. tie] 34, Williamsville-Sherman, August 31, 1993-October 30, 1993, won its first 34 matches of the season beginning with a win over Mt. Pulaski, then lost in a Class A regional championship match to Mt. Pulaski.

[21. tie] 34, Milledgeville, September 1, 1998- November 13, 1998, won the first 34 matches of the season before losing to Quincy Notre Dame, 15-10, 15-17, 15-13, in the Class A quarterfinals.
