It was hot fun in the Summer(fest)time for Michio Chicago 15 National last weekend.
Michio Chicago 15 National overcame the loss of one of their best attackers and a field of 36 teams Sunday to win the 15 Open division at the JVA Summerfest at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus. Ohio.
Michio finished 7-0 in the tournament dropping only three sets along the way, defeating Tri-State Elite 15 Blue, 25-22, 23-25, 21-19 in the semifinals and Cleveland Volleyball Club 15 Black, 25-21, 25-15, in the championship match.
The girls from Chicago also won without one of their top hitters, 6-foot-2 rightside hitter Logan Grevengoed from Chicago Christian, who was sent home with after becoming sick and experiencing a very high fever.
“The girls stepped up and got it done,” said Michio club director Diane Mikulskis.
Members of Michio Chicago 15 National are: Chloe Arteaga, a libero/defensive specialist from Marist; Sarah Morton, a libero/defensive specialist from Munster (Ind.) High School; setter Dovile Gorys from Lockport; middle hitter Kylie Brosius from Marist; and outside hitter Peyton Brokemond from Mother McAuley.
Also, outside hitter Haley Melby from Munster (Ind.) High School; rightside/middle hitter Kamryn Chaney; middle hitter Mary Clare Brusek from Marist; middle/rightside hitter Madison Vänder Meer-Erickson from Lake Central (Ind.); and Caroline Macander, a setter from Mother McAuley.
The head coach of Michio Chicago 15 National is Vlad Frenc, who is assisted by Erica Harris.
