Carmel coach David Pazeley: “Carmel went down early because of some solid blocking by Libertyville and some additional hitting errors on our part. However, the team rebounded and quickly got in rhythm after the first 10 points. We knew we had to be ready for their setter to try and dictate the pace of play with attacking when she was in the front row. She got one on us early, but we shut that down the rest of the match. Our hitters started finding ways around their big block, and once we got our middles involved offensively we were able to dictate the pace of play. Another key to our success was Mya Mainzer catching fire from the service line with three aces in a row and going on a 10-point run early in the second set. We were able to stretch that lead even more and get all our seniors on the court, too. Our team has made some great strides the last couple of weeks and now it is starting to show on the court. We went 4-1 at the Maine West Pumpkin tournament. After winning seven of our last 10 matches, we have momentum going into our final East Suburban Catholic Conference match (Tuesday vs. Marian Central) and are reaching new heights just in time for the playoffs. We will be at Rockford Boylan where we are the No. 1 seed in our sub-sectional with our eyes on a regional championship.”
