Michio Chicago 17 National and Uno Girls 17 Elite joined the national championship parade Tuesday, winning the 17 National and 17 American divisions, respectively, at the 2018 USAV Girls Junior National Championships in Detroit, Michigan.

Six Illinois teams ranked by Illprepvb.com won national championships at either the AAU Junior National Championships in Orlando, Florida, or the USAV Girls Junior National Championships in Detroit, Michigan.

Note: SPVB 18 Elite defeated nemesis Asics Munciana 18 Samurai (Indiana) twice in 24 hours at the 45th AAU Girls’ and Boys’ Junior National Volleyball Championships in Orlando, Florida, to claim its fifth national title in the last six years. Six-foot-4 junior outside hitter Taylor Landfair was named MVP of the tournament and was joined on the All-American team by 6-3 middle hitter Emmy Barnhorst from Wheaton North and 5-8 libero Grace Kloss from Waubonsie Valley.

2. Uno Girls 18 Elite (4)
Note: Uno Girls 18 Elite, despite the absence of Minooka’s Holly Bonde (knee injury), went 4-3 and finished third in its season finale at the National Junior Classic May 26-28 at the Great Lakes Center in Aurora, Illinois. Iowa State-bound libero Taylor Baranski of Minooka and Marian Catholic’s Lauren Hatch were named to the Illprepvb.com/Great Lakes 18s Power League All-League Team.

Note: Michio Chicago 18 National went 3-4 and finished 21st in the 18 Open division of the USAV 18s Junior National Championships April 27-29 in Anaheim, California. Notre Dame-bound Charley Niego of Mother McAuley and Central Michigan recruit Savannah Thompson of Marist were named to the Illprepvb.com/Great Lakes 18s Power League All-League Team.

4. SPVB 18 Kahl (NR)
Note: Behind tournament MVP Kyra Slavik, a 5-11 setter from St. Charles East, and All-American selections Alison Jennings from Oswego East and Sarah Kushner of Naperville North, SPVB 18 Kahl defeated Asics Munciana Quora (Indiana) 25-21, 25-23 in the championship match to win the 18 Premier division at the 45th AAU Girls’ and Boys’ Junior National Volleyball Championships in Orlando, Florida.

5. (tie) Illini Elite 18 Cardinal (2)
Note: Illini Elite 18 Cardinal went 10-6 and finished fifth in the Great Lakes Power League 18 Super Open division at the Great Lakes Center in Aurora, Illinois. The Bloomington-based team opted not to participate in AAUs. Pekin product Hannah Thompson, a Bradley University recruit, was named to the Illprepvb.com/Great Lakes 18s Power League All-League Team.

5. (tie) Sky High Adidas 18 Black (NR)
Note: Sky High Adidas 18 Black went 5-2 and finished in a tie for fifth place in the 18 National division of the USAV 18s Junior National Championships April 27-29 in Anaheim, California. Megan Kelly from Crystal Lake Central, who will play collegiately at the University of Akron, was named to the Illprepvb.com/Great Lakes 18s Power League All-League Team.

Note: IL STLHP (Illinois St. Louis High Performance) 18 Elite went 7-1 and finished in a tie for third place in the 18 USA division of the USAV 18s Junior National Championships April 27-29 in Anaheim, California. IL STLHP 18 Elite lost to national runner-up Bakersfield 18 John (California) 18-25, 25-23, 15-10 in a Gold bracket semifinal.

Note: Fusion 18 Black went 8-2 and tied for fifth place in the 18 Premier division at 45th AAU Girls’ and Boys’ Junior National Volleyball Championships in Orlando, Florida, losing in the championship quarterfinals to Epic 18 Pat out of California, 25-22, 25-12. Hannah Oehlberg, a 6-foot outside hitter from DeKalb headed to Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis, was named an All-American.

Note: The Western Springs-based club finished in a tie for 35th place in the 18 Open division of the USAV 18s Junior National Championships April 27-29 in Anaheim, California. Molly Murrihy, who led Marist to a IHSA state championship in the fall and is a University of Memphis recruit, was named to the Illprepvb.com/Great Lakes 18s Power League All-League Team.

Note: Nicknamed the “Magnificent Seven” by the club’s coaches, Fusion 17 Red won its first 12 matches before falling to Palm Beach (Florida) Juniors 16 Elite 25-22, 20-25, 15-12 in the 17 Premier championship match at the 45th AAU Girls’ and Boys’ Junior National Volleyball Championships in Orlando. Katie Jablonski, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter from Kaneland, Sam Juarez, a 5-6 libero from Batavia and 5-11 setter Katie Lanz from St. Charles North were named All-Americans.

Note: Michio Chicago 17 National defeated Adrenaline 17 ROX out of Hiawatha, Iowa, 25-21, 25-21 to finish 9-2 and win the 17 National division of the 2018 USAV Girls Junior National Championships in Detroit, Michigan. Named All-Americans from Illini Elite 17 Cardinal were Hartsburg-Emden’s 6-foot outside hitter Anna Hayes and Mahomet-Seymour’s 5-11 outside hitter Samantha Matthews.

Note: Uno Girls 17 Elite defeated Bonneville 17 out of Idaho Falls, Idaho, 25-17, 25-17, to finish 10-1 and win the 17 American division of the 2018 USAV Girls Junior National Championships in Detroit, Michigan. Note: After going 2-1 in Round 3 of Gold Pool play, 1st Alliance 16 Silver lost to Asics KIVA 16 Red (Louisville, Kentucky) 25-22, 25-21 in a championship bracket feed-in match to finish 5-4 and tied for ninth place in the 16 Open division of the 45th AAU Girls’ and Boys’ Junior National Volleyball Championships in Orlando, Florida.

Note: Behind MVP Brooklyn Borum (Sterling) and All-American selections Emily Wilson (Joliet Catholic) and Alexis Rodriguez (Sterling), SPVB 15 Elite defeated Nebraska Elite 15 Revolution out of Omaha, Nebraska, 25-17, 25-21, in the championship match of the 15 Open division at the 45th AAU Girls’ and Boys’ Junior National Volleyball Championships in Orlando, Florida. It was the second straight national championship for the team, which won the 14 Open division in 2017.

3. Sky High Adidas 15 Black (NR)
Note: Sky High Adidas 15 Black defeated CoJrs. 15 Shannon (Colorado) 25-23, 25-5 to win the Bronze A bracket in the 15 Open division of the 2018 USAV Girls Junior National Championships in Detroit, Michigan. Sky High Adidas 15 Black finished in 17th place at 6-3 in the tournament. Margaret Wallenberger, a 5-11 outside hitter from Jacobs, was named to the Illprepvb.com/Great Lakes 16s Power League All-League Team.

4. SPVB 15 C-Fed (NR)
Note: SPVB 15 C-Fed defeated FaROut 15 Black out of Grand Rapids, Michigan, 25-19, 25-23 in the championship match of the 15 Premier division at the 45th AAU Girls’ and Boys’ Junior National Volleyball Championships in Orlando, Florida. Breelyn Borum (Sterling) was named MVP and joined on the All-American team by Caroline Barnes (Benet Academy) and Giorgia Cavalleri (Naperville Central).

5. (tie) Michio Chicago 15 National (NR)
Note: Michio Chicago 15 National finished third in the 15 Premier division of the 45th AAU Girls’ and Boys’ Junior National Volleyball Championships in Orlando, Florida, losing to eventual national champion SPVB 15 C-Fed 25-23, 25-20 in the semifinals. Michio Chicago 15 National went 9-3 in the four-day tournament, defeating Milwaukee Sting 15 Black 20-25, 25-22, 16-14 in the quarterfinals.

Note: Club Fusion 15 Red defeated Magnum 15 Mizuno out of Hendersonville, North Carolina, 22-25, 25-11, 16-14 to win the Diamond bracket of the 15 Premier division at the 45th AAU Girls’ and Boys’ Junior National Volleyball Championships in Orlando, Florida. Fusion 15 Red, 9-3 in the tournament including a win over Temecula Viper 15 Kevin (California) – the only team to beat eventual champions SPVB 15 C-Fed – finished 31st out of 101 teams.
