Vernon Hills def. Highland Park 25-23, 25-20
Vernon Hills (8-5 overall, 1-0 in the Central Suburban North).
Vernon Hills coach Chris Curry: “The night was a pretty big error-fest early on, especially our hitting. The guys are trying some new things, and we had a hard time finding the court. But I was really happy with how they kept their composure, adjusted, and battled through all that. The serving came around finally (especially Sammy Adkisson with 2 aces and EJ Demas with one).  When we got Highland Park out of system, we had some good success late. They’ve got some guys who can really swing, and it took our blockers a while to start finding the ball. Late in the match, we got our hands on the attack, slowed it down, and transitioned well from there. Our defense really keeps us in some matches. Adkisson and fellow senior Ryan Pristas (5 digs) do a great job, and their passing gave us a lot of offensive options.”
