Carmel coach Dave Pazely: “There’s always a lot of hype when Carmel and Libertyville play each other in any sport. Football was supposed to play last Friday but had to cancel. So all that tension boiled over into tonight’s volleyball match and the crowd for both schools packed the gym and had it rocking. There were some clear nerves from both teams early on with a bunch of missed serves from both sides of the net.  But 10 points into the first set, it was clear that it was going to be a battle. Molly Halaburt stepped to the service line and help Carmel separate late to clinch the first set. Game 2 was much of the same. Back and forth with the teams locked in a close battle all the way through. Katie Wesolowicz was instrumental in slowing down Libertyville’s attack with some clutch plays in the second set both defensively and offensively, and her partner Milan Moore kept the offense coming from the middle with 5 kills of her own. Milana Moisio proved yet again that she is one of, if not the, best liberos in the state with 10 digs and an almost perfect serve receive score. The match ended with Julia Shrofe serving match point but a crazy rally that lasted almost 2 minutes. We practice a drill called “Chaos” multiple times/week and it prepares them mentally for dealing with moments like this.  Carmel ended the chaos and the match with that final point.”
