Carmel coach David Pazely: “Marian Central pushed the pace to start the first set and we had to battle back from an early 4-point deficit. Abbey Sullivan had a great run at the service line to get us back into the game. It stayed tight all the way to the end with great plays on both sides of the net, but the senior leadership stepped up and maintained the team’s composure to close out the first set. The second set saw Carmel find a different gear. Our serving was excellent again thanks to Sullivan, but our net presence was the additional piece that really put us in the driver’s seat. Blocks from Parker, Sullivan and Olson slowed their offense down and our back line was flying everywhere for anything that made it past that block. It was great to see this team put together a complete performance in set two.  Abbey Sullivan was huge at the net offensively and defensively but also at the service line. She forced Marian Central to burn three timeouts with the runs she created. Heather Kintis found her rhythm tonight and led the team in kills but did so with great decision-making, knowing when to swing and when to change speeds. Claire Parker ran a great offense for us tonight but also put together a great defensive performance with 3 blocks and 11 digs. Lauren Olson upped her performance from Tuesday and contributed 3 kills and 4 blocks and had a lot of touches that slowed their offense down.”
Next up: Carmel competes in the Libertyville/Warren tournament Friday and Saturday.
