Landfair, Niego and Murrihy headline first Illprepvb.com/Great Lakes 18s Power League All-League Team

MVP Taylor Landfair of undefeated league champion SPVB 18 Elite heads the first Illprepvb.com/Great Lakes 18s Power League All-League Team that features 20 of the best volleyball players in Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan.

“The Power League we’ve had this year is almost like an all-star league,” said Sports Performance Girls Director Erik Vogt. “You have individuals who were great on their high school teams that have played really well here.”

Among the players who excelled in the Great Lakes 18s Power League were high school standouts Taylor Baranski of Minooka, Katie Lanz of St. Charles North and Hannah Thompson of Pekin, who had 458 kills this season for her high school team.

There were others.

“Molly Murrihy ran a fantastic offense at state champion Marist and does a great job here for 1st Alliance 18 Silver,” Vogt said. “Charley Niego played really well for Michio Chicago 18 National and helped Mother McAuley win a national championship.

“There are so many good individual players here that play so hard and so well for their high school teams, it’s enjoyable to watch when they get involved with other really talented players and just go out and compete.

“It’s a great environment,” Vogt added. “This whole group should be really be commended on how well they played in the tournament.”

Illinois was not the only state represented on the team, however. Rebecka Poljan and Corinne Jemison of Grand Rapids, Michigan-based FaR Out 18 Black and Hannah VandenBerg of Appleton, Wisconsin-based FC Elite 17 Navy were also named to the elite squad.

“The thing that makes Hannah so special is that nothing bothers her,” FC Elite 17 Navy coach Glen Schneider said. “She just lets everything go.

So here they are. They top 20 players who competed this winter at the Great Lakes Volleyball Center selected by coaches, Great Lakes Volleyball Center staff and Illprepvb.com.
