No. 10 Deerfield def. Vernon Hills 25-19, 23-25, 25-16

Vernon Hills coach Chris Curry: “We really put up a good fight tonight. We’re just too small to consistently block a team hitting up where they’re making contact. And, honestly, they are just so controlled. They make so few errors that you can’t make any if you want to beat them. Eugene (Chung) has them playing really tough, really smart. We saw some good things from a bunch of young guys again tonight. But the highlight was senior libero Sammy Adkisson. He got dig No. 1,000 of his career during the third set. He’s so steady, so good at defending, and he’s been that way his entire three years on the varsity. One thousand digs is far and away the Vernon Hills all-time record (second was 2003 graduate Ian Peckler who finished with 801). He’s a tremendous kid, and we’re lucky to have had him here.”
