Vernon Hills (11-7 overall, 6-2 in the Central Suburban North).
Vernon Hills coach Chris Curry: “We came out really flat, really lethargic, and Maine West was serving us off the court. But the girls found their energy, largely behind the screaming and cajoling of some great teammates, not all of whom even got in the match. The energy was infectious, and we started to move better and play defense, and things turned our way. It was dicey in the end though. After getting out to a 10-3 lead in the third set, we errored our way to a 13-13 tie, and Maine West’s setter picked us apart for a while. We were down 18-22 when junior Katie Perrit, a second set substitute, went to the service line. Her tough serves, some really good decisions from senior setter Abby Wisniewski down the stretch, some inspired defense from sophomore Elli Amjadi and Bella Pappano, a two blocks from junior middle blocker Erica Bunning, and we had ourselves maybe our most exciting win of the season.”
